THROOP-- 15-year-old Ani Amboni is a force to be reckoned with on the court at Mid Valley High School.

The freshman basketball player starts for her high school team.

Last month, Amboni noticed a lump on her head.

She went to the doctor and he warned her, it could be cancer.

"I just didn`t know what to think, it just was fast, it was coming," she said.

After more scans, Amboni and her family learned the bone tumor was benign.

She will need surgery to remove it, but her mother said what started as her worst nightmare has become a reality she can face.

"Great news. I was very, very happy with the outcome because he looked at me and said, it really didn't look good. But he was very excited that it was benign," said Taciana Holt.

After missing three games because of her health concerns, Amboni's doctor cleared her to take the court again. And Monday night, she was back, playing against Old Forge.

Amboni was thrilled and she was not alone.

Amboni's coach said through it all, Number 11 has remained upbeat.

"When she first found out, she came to out Lakeland game and she was hiding her tears. When she saw the girls, she ended up breaking down, but you now right afterwards, she's making fun of different things," said Coach Kim Yencho.

Throughout the past few weeks, Amboni and her family said there has been an outpouring of support, from the Mid Valley community and beyond.

"It`s been really amazing the way things have happened so fast and everyone has been you know very supportive," said Mid Valley Athletic Director Tom Nowakowski.

Other coaches, parents, players and referees have reached out, donating money to cover medical costs, showing they care.

"I just didn't think it was going to be that big," said Amboni.

Ani Amboni will continue to play for the Spartanettes until her surgery which is set for February 20th.

She said she will be out of school for about a month.

She plans to be back on the courts playing as soon as she can.

Amboni's coach said the community has raised more than $3,000 for Amboni so far.
