PITTSTON TOWNSHIP -- After all the cold and snow this winter, some people in our area have had enough. We found them catching flights to the south, to escape another wintry week ahead.

And we found there are still some reasonably priced flights from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if you think it's time to get away.

Some travelers at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport say warm Florida sunshine is just too tempting.

“We can't have any more snow,” said Judy Brown of Idetown. “That's why (we’re getting away.)  Two weeks, yippee!”

“I've been watching the weather here and the weather in Sarasota, and believe me, we're thrilled to be getting out of here,” said Marty Thomas of Scranton.

Marty and Mari Thomas are visiting family in Florida.  They needed a break from this rough winter.

“Especially the past week or two with the frigid temperatures and one snowstorm after another, just enough to make you crazy, shoveling two or three inches off the sidewalks all the time,” Thomas said.

“I don't know, I might even be looking for something to live down there,” laughed Mari Thomas.

While we were here talking to people heading to warmer destinations, we did some searching and found there are some reasonable flights to go from here and head south. It's never too late to get away.

We looked at flights from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Orlando.  A Tuesday February 25 to Tuesday March 4 round trip would cost you $279.

A Monday March 3 to Monday March 11 round trip is $240

It saves to fly mid-week.  A Saturday to Saturday trip in March is going to cost you around $400.

“You know they're really not bad, especially the airlines here, the prices really aren't bad to get out,” said Brian Dodson of Hunlock Creek.

Brian and Julie Dodson of Hunlock Creek are thrilled to be heading to Orlando for a week.

“Especially looking at the weather report coming up, my car is in a garage, won't be covered in snow and we'll be in Orlando, looks good to me.”

“71 to 81, looks like the entire week we're there,” said Julie Dodson. “(We’re going to be rubbing it in to family) the whole time we're there!  Yep, my coworkers are pretty jealous right now.”

We searched for flights to a lot of Florida destinations from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.  If you can travel any day in the middle of the week, there are plenty of options available for around $250 round trip.
