DICKSON CITY -- Students were flexing their brains in an annual engineering competition in Lackawanna County.

The Viewmont Mall hosted the 26th Northeastern Pennsylvania bridge building competition Saturday.

Dozens of students from all parts of our region built bridges out of basswood.

The students spent about a month designing and testing the models, which were put to the test by a panel of professional engineers.

Each bridge was loaded with weight until it collapsed.

Students we spoke with say they enjoyed the challenge.

"Its definitely cool to see that a lot of other people are interested in doing the exact same thing as I am, or similar to it. It's good to see that a lot of kids are participating. They wanna do what they like," said Kurtis Kehr.

The winners from the comeptition are eligible for college scholarships and may have the opportunity to rebuild their bridges for the International Competition in Chicago.
