PITTSTON -- A home was wrecked by a fire Saturday morning in Pittston.

Firefighters were called to the two-story home on Stark Street around 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

The flames were seen shooting from the windows, doors, and roof of the home.

Firefighters from Pittston and surrounding communities were on the scene.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the grandmother and three grandchildren in her care who lived there have lost their home and many of their possessions.

The family is no stranger to tragedy.

Back in 2006, Cari Chapman,22, was shot and killed in Franklin Township.

On Saturday, her daughter, Caitlin Chapman, wondered if any of her mother's possessions could have survived.

"My mom's chest was up there, all of her pictures and stuff."

Firefighters believe some if not all of the family's pets perished in the fire including a puppy, cats, a bird, and a rabbit.

Police say the fire marshal was not able to determine the cause of the fire because the damage was so extensive, but investigators believe it started on the rear of the first floor.

Donations of clothing and other items can be dropped off at the Polish Falcons in Duryea which is located at 631 Main Street.

Items are being accepted after 2:00 p.m. Saturday, after 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, and after 3:30 p.m. on weekdays.
