WILLIAMSPORT — Investigators upgraded the charges against a teen to third-degree murder for a deadly shooting over the summer.

Back in June, Daran Sears, 19, was charged with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of Donte Marks, 21, of Williamsport.

Sears allegedly told authorities the gun went off accidentally inside his apartment on West Fourth Street.

But investigators said an inmate at the Lycoming County prison told them Sears admitted killing the man because the victim was “making fun of him.”

Sears was arraigned on the new charge Friday morning and returned to the Lycoming County prison.

they have no right to charge that teen with murder over what another inmate said that he said. if the police did not hear it come from his mouth they shouldnt be allowed to do that. the death was accidental.
