PITTSTON TOWNSHIP -- Officials from a distribution center in Luzerne County tells Newswatch 16 the facility is shutting down.

Managers of Penguin Random House said the company is closing its operations in Pittston Township.

The book publisher said their plan is to close the place by February of next year.

Penguin Random House would not tell us how many people work at that distribution center.

The Kirkwood Distribution center employs 300+ employees of which many are from Northeastern Pennsylvania. There has to be 200+ employees at the Pittston Warehouse. All will be out of a job by June 2015.

Thanks to Random House, they took over and shut us down. So much for a merger. I’m really going to miss working there. Great job with great people.

All cause of the those electronic books are killing the business for paper back books and costing thousands of jobs to be lost and business to go down .

Kat, this closing is not because of those electronic books. Penguin Random House will continue to manufacture and distribute paperback & hard cover books, just not in Pittston, PA or Kirkwood, NY. Penguin Random House is closing both former Penguin distribution centers and keeping both former Random House warehouses open. Hmmm, I thought it was a merger not a takeover?
