In Monroe County, some places saw about six inches of snow accumulate Tuesday night.  Other areas saw much more.

Then, those snowflakes, changed over to raindrops by late morning. The switch made for a mess on the roadways.

Our travels through snowy Monroe County Tuesday started in Sciota, where Bill Foust was shoveling away at mounds of snow covering his walkway.

"Five or six inches, probably. It's a heavier snow than last time," said Foust.

While dad was doing the tough work removing the snow, his kids were busy creating forts as they had another day off from school.

Farther down Route 209, the Pocono Newswatch 16 Team reached Brodheadsville. It was there where we noticed the only other drivers sharing the road had plows on their vehicles, like Armando Martins of Effort. He stopped by an auto parts store to buy a part for his jeep.

"It's getting a little wear and tear with all the snow going on," said Martins.

We then continued our trek north through Monroe County and stopped by Blakeslee, where there were a few more drivers on the road.

Paula Dalpos and her son Eric were among the few who had their reasons for getting behind the wheel.

"I needed milk. There's no food in my house," said Dalpos of Pocono Lake.

But mom let her son Eric take the wheel, since she says he's better at maneuvering slick Route 115.

By 1 p.m. in Blakeslee, the snowfall turned into rain which caused the snow piles to be covered with a layer of ice.

But ice wasn't the issue on Route 423 in Tobyhanna. Instead the area was covered in slush.

Nathan Thomas didn't mind his inches of snow didn't turn to slush.

"It's sort of relaxing, you know, I'm retired, so you know, this is part of retirement, shoveling snow," said Thomas.

A snow emergency is in place for Stroudsburg.  Borough officials are asking drivers to not park their vehicles on snow emergency routes until Friday at 9 a.m.
