JIM THORPE -- The family of a woman who went missing on Friday is trying to find out what happened that led to their loved one's death.

The family of Angela Steigerwalt, 35, say her remains were found on Saturday after fire crews put out a brush fire in Jim Thorpe.

State police are now investigating what they call a case of criminal homicide.

Donald Serfass set out pictures of his niece, Angela Steigerwalt and reflects about the kind of person she was.

"She brought us so much joy for so many years that we have that to hold onto," said Serfass.

Serfass holds back tears as he tries to make sense of his niece's death.

Authorities say a wooded area off Flagstaff Road in Jim Thorpe is where Steigerwalt’s remains were found Saturday morning after fire crews put out a brush fire.

Steigerwalt's family wants to know who killed her and why.

"This is a woman who was very career motivated and family motivated and had direction.  She was a creature of habit, so something terrible happened," said Serfass.

Serfass says Steigerwalt would always call her husband when she arrived at work near Allentown.

On Friday, that call never came.

Serfass says Steigerwalt's husband tried contacting his wife, then the family went to police.

"Less than 24 hours was when a body was found in Jim Thorpe," said Serfass

And now, the family has so many questions.

"Did it happen going to work or coming home?  What happened?  She was very careful.  She was an excellent driver.  She would have helped anybody.  She had a heart of gold," said Serfass.

While the state police are investigating, the family says Angela Steigerwalt's car was found in North Carolina. But the family isn't sure of any more details.
