JIM THORPE — The discovery of human remains in Carbon County has led to a homicide investigation.
According to state police, firefighters in Jim Thorpe found the remains around 10 a.m. Saturday while fighting a brush fire off Flagstaff Road.
Troopers are investigating the case as a homicide.
A man told Newswatch 16 that the victim is his niece, Angela Steigerwalt of Tamaqua.
Steigerwalt’s uncle, Donald Serfass said his niece was last seen leaving work Friday at the Kraft Foods Plant in Lehigh County.
Serfass added that his niece was a hard worker, a loving wife and step-mother, and had an exceptionally generous spirit.
He said police have told family members the victim’s car was found in North Carolina, and that a person inside the car may be extradited to Pennsylvania.
