JIM THORPE -- The discovery of human remains in Carbon County has led to a homicide investigation.

According to state police, firefighters in Jim Thorpe found the remains around 10 a.m. Saturday while fighting a brush fire off Flagstaff Road.

Troopers are investigating the case as a homicide.

A man told Newswatch 16 that the victim is his niece, Angela Steigerwalt of Tamaqua.

Steigerwalt's uncle, Donald Serfass said his niece was last seen leaving work Friday at the Kraft Foods Plant in Lehigh County.

Serfass added that his niece was a hard worker, a loving wife and step-mother, and had an exceptionally generous spirit.

He said police have told family members the victim's car was found in North Carolina, and that a person inside the car may be extradited to Pennsylvania.

May whoever did this be caught and brought to justice. She didn’t deserve to die this way. Keep her family in your prayers. I’ll be praying for them.

What was ignorant about that comment? The poster was pointing out that this is a more serious news story than contaminated water, yet gets less coverage.
