SCRANTON -- People were happy about the weekend warm-up because that meant jumping into a pool to help folks with cancer in our area.

A non-profit organization called 'The friends of Shannon McDonough' hosted 'Splashin` with Compassion Polar Plunge' at Montage Mountain on Saturday in Lackawanna County.

McDonough died in 2009 of colon cancer at the young age of 23.

Along with the plunge, people could take part in a costume contest.

A woman dressed as a locomotive told us why she came to the event.

"It's for a good cause I wanted to show support. One of my best friends passed away of colon cancer and it's all a good time," said Chrissy McGraths of Scranton.

There were also basket raffles, food and some activities to keep the kids busy here in Scranton.
