WILKES-BARRE — The Osterhout Free Library in Wilkes-Barre kicked off a year-long celebration on Wednesday, marking its 125th anniversary.
The library on South Franklin Street opened at 10 a.m., the exact time it opened back on January 29, 1889.
Staff members dressed in traditional clothing from the 19th century and guests were treated to cake and refreshments.
The library is also filling a time capsule with items from 2014. Officials say it will be closed in a few days and not reopened until the Osterhout’s 225th anniversary in 2114.
