TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP -- An organization in the Poconos needs a helping hand renovating a building to house a food pantry.
Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to do everything from roof work to picking up debris.
Volunteers are hard at work building a new roof at the future Five Loaf House food pantry near Blakeslee. Volunteers have been working all week, first removing the old roof, then building a new one on the former Lakeside House Restaurant.
"It's phenomenal. It blows my mind. It's all been done with the help of volunteers," said Mark Edwards, a volunteer.
Edwards is a member of the Pocono Lake Wesleyan Church, one of the churches that will help run the food pantry.
Work started at the end of August and there's still a lot of work left. The crew is in need of a few extra hands to help get the job done.
"Some volunteers are apprehensive, 'Well I've never done that'. Well you don't have to have done that. We have tremendous patience. You'll be fully knowledgeable in plumbing, electric or drywall insulation, whatever is needed for the project," said Edwards.
If you want to volunteer, you'll be put to where your skills are needed the most.
"There's a lot of grunt work. Right now we need ground people," said William Snell of Habitat for Humanity.
Snell is overseeing all the work. He says work is expected to wrap up in March and needs the help now to meet that deadline.
"Taking the old roof off, you’ve got to get rid of it. It comes off in pieces," said Snell.
Then after the roof is finished, there's plenty more to do inside.
