TAYLOR -- A man is recovering after a car wreck Monday morning in Lackawanna County.

Police said a car was headed south at a high rate of speed on Keyser Avenue in Taylor around 4 a.m.

Authorities said the driver lost control, ran off the road, and slammed into a tree.  The impact threw the car's engine more than 100 feet away.

"I just sat down on the couch to watch TV and heard this big boom, came out and saw car parts everywhere.  At first, I thought it was thunder," said Norm Krotz, a neighbor who heard the crash.

The driver was taken to a Scranton hospital.  Keyser Avenue in Taylor was closed during the investigation.  It has since opened to traffic this morning.
