SCRANTON — A new veterans center and home is among the topics the Lackawanna County Council of Veterans will be tackling in 2014.

The group held its first meeting of the year Monday morning at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton.

The council, made up representatives from more than 20 veterans organizations in the county, discuss veterans issues and take those concerns to politicians.

“We believe that in order to have a voice, we have to have a unified voice. When we speak in a unified voice, those in elected office listen,” said council member Col Joe Albert.

The Lackawanna County Council of Veterans has been around for about 20 years.
