This is the sixth year in a row that drivers traveling the Pennsylvania turnpike will see a rate hike after the new year.

The increase goes into effect January 5th and drivers who use cash will pay between $0.20 to up to a $1.10 more depending on the destination.

E-ZPass users will see a $0.02 to $0.15 increase.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says E-ZPass users will see a smaller rate hike because of the lower cost of collecting tolls electronically.

The PTC says most of the money from the rate increase will go to it's funding obligation to the state under Act 44.

Some of the money will also be used for the capital improvement plan to widen the turnpike from four to six lanes.
