BRADFORD COUNTY -- In some of our northern counties, people have been dealing with snow all day.

Snow plowing began early for folks in Bradford County. This snow began falling on New Year's Day and hasn't really ever stopped since.

Matt Moore has been working nonstop, clearing out parking lots and private drives. He says they're preparing for a big hit from Mother Nature.

“(So far) a couple cars off the road, nothing abnormal, a lot of snow, a lot of salting, plowing, probably be out most of the day and tonight."

PennDOT has geared up for this storm as well. Officials say 39 trucks are covering the roads in Bradford County, but PennDOT manager Warren Knapp says the predicted storm could create extra hazards for drivers, no matter how much these crews keep up.

“There’ll be a lot of blowing snow, drifting snow. Our guys are going to be out but they can’t be everywhere at one time,” Knapp said.

Driving across back roads, conditions weren't terrible traveling from Bradford to Susquehanna County on Route 706.

In Montrose, the storm had Ray's ShurSave Market busy all day. It was the same just a few miles away at Rob's Market in Hallstead.

"Well, every time someone mentions snow, everybody’s got to go out and get bread, milk, and things like that, so the store’s been very busy all day long and I’m sure it’s going to continue until the snow gets a lot heavier,” said manager Eddy Arnold.

Workers stocked shelves throughout the day, keeping those most popular items available. But as this storm progresses, PennDOT is urging drivers to avoid heading out as much as possible.

"Be smart, reduce your speed, don’t travel if you don’t have to."

These extra frigid temperatures are going to make this storm a tough one for PennDOT as well. They tell Newswatch 16 that the salt they put on the roads won't be as effective as usual because of the cold.

This winter storm warning is in effect through 10 a.m. Friday.
