SCRANTON -- Some light snow in spots didn't stop last-minute shoppers from heading out today.
But not all of them were looking for gifts. Some folks packed a bakery in Lackawanna County where cookies are a part of the Christmas tradition for many families.
Just like you can always count on Santa, Folks in the Minooka section of Scranton can always count on a lot of cars parked along side of Birney Avenue on Christmas Eve.
They're all there for the same thing, any combination of Christmas goodies. The cookies, cakes, and sweet breads at Minooka Pastry shop are a tradition for a lot of families at Christmastime.
"Every year, Thanksgiving and Christmas, I always make it to Minooka Bakery because my friend Joe, who I went to high school with, owns Minooka Bakery. If I had known that, I would have gone to every dance with him!" said Julia Munley of Clarks Summit.
That goes to show how far people will go to get their hands of the shop's products.
Minooka Pastry takes hundreds of orders ahead of time that all get doled out during the days before Christmas. The employees put in extra hours.
"I was here at 5:00 am today and 5:00 am yesterday, it's very tiring, it's been crazy, but I love it," said employee Anny Clapp.
The employees at Minooka Pastry said they go through about 300 orders a day. But, that doesn't account for customers who just stop in for a small order of cookies or kolachi.
"Every year, every year we come here. They have good cookies here that's why. We didn't feel like baking so we got a little bit," said Joan DeMarco of Spring Brook Township.
Christmas is a time where it's OK to indulge. Minooka pastry is proof of that. Employees said they sell a few thousand pounds of cookies this season.
