Coffee shop owners in Wilkes-Barre demonstrated the power to save by taking old wine bottles and turning them into festive holiday pieces.
Old jars and boxes were also getting new life as well at David’s Coffee Shop.
Owner Suzanne Joseph said she and her employees help make festive holiday pieces out of old wine bottles, gravy jars and wine boxes.
Joseph told Newswatch 16 David’s Coffee Shop was named for their son David, who has autism. She said the shop has become a place to train and work with young adults with autism, and help them get work experience.
What started out as a small mom and pop coffee shop in the heights section of Wilkes-Barre, has turned into something much bigger in so many ways.
Owner Suzanne Joseph said she and her employees help make festive holiday pieces out of old wine bottles, gravy jars and wine boxes.
"Instead of throwing them away, they would bring their wine bottles in here and we've done tons of them, we've had up to six or seven cases at a time. People really like them, they can be used as a night light, they can be used in a bathroom, on a kitchen counter, on a bar,” said Owner of Joseph’s Coffee Shop, Suzanne Joseph.

And she said these projects were a perfect way to help keep the workers productive.
"We needed something for the kids to do, so a lot of our customers drink wine, so they saved us their wine bottles and brought them in, the kids put the lights in them and help us hang grapes and we tie a bow on them, and we sell them,” said Joseph.
And it's not just wine bottles, the shop decorates wine boxes, and old gravy jars.
"We soak the labels off, we scrub them with a brillow pad, wipe them down with alcohol and paint them," said Joseph.
Turning them into beautiful centerpieces or gifts for the holidays, and helping young adults build their self-worth and self-esteem one old wine bottle at a time.
