Our weather in 2013 was for the most part agreeable.
Indeed we had our fair share of cold, heat, rain and snow but there were no significant weather events to speak of.
Thankfully we got away without having any devastating tornadoes and floods.
The coldest day of the year was on January 24th with zero at the Avoca airport. Many outlying areas dipped below zero on that day.
Some of the weather oddities during the year include snow flurries up in Susquehanna county… on May 23rd!
June was a very soggy month with over 9″ of rain in some areas. There were 14 days with rain in June and on the 27th we had flash flooding with up to 3″ of rain in less than 24 hours.
The year’s worst heat wave came in July when on 6 straight days from the 15th to the 20th temperatures broke 90 peaking at 96 on he 18th, the hottest day of the year.
Another 90 degree day came in September when on nine eleven it hit 95.
We had the fourth driest Autumn season on record. For the 3 month period September through November our total rainfall during was 5.88″.
The year will end up being drier than normal all across our area with precipitation deficits ranging from 3″ up to 11″.
All in all throughout the year it seemed to me that compliments outnumbered the complaints and we’re hoping for more of the same in 2014.
