SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -- Ever wonder how Christmas was celebrated in the early 1900s? Schuylkill Haven is the place to be this weekend for an Old-Fashioned Christmas on Main Street.

Bright lights weren't around in the early 1900s but the Michael family is using them to give everyone something nice to see. It's part of the old-fashioned Christmas going on in Schuylkill Haven. It's being held at a place from the past: the Meck Knitting Mill, which was built more than a century ago.

“It was built on the old loading dock. It’s the original foundation and, believe it or not, I am the fifth generation descendant of the original owner,” said John Michael.

“We are going to be wearing Victorian outfits. We have ice sculpting.  We have four that are going to be done. They will be lit at dusk. We have a spaghetti dinner with Santa Claus tonight for the kids,” said Lori Michael.

There are other events including shopping in the former knitting mill which has been renovated into a mall.

“There are so many different things to look at and you can just cruise around in a circle for a long time and still miss things as you're going along,” said Marlin Kinsel of Girardville.

“It’s big weekend. A lot of people come through. Christmas means a lot to everybody. They just come in and have fun.  There is so much to look at,” said merchant Carol Lopez.

If you want to find out what Christmas was like way, way back when, then the Meck Knitting Mill is the place to be all weekend long.
