WILKES-BARRE -- Volunteers in Wilkes-Barre cooked up 435 Thanksgiving dinners for the homebound and disabled on Thursday.

This is the 34th year that the Commission on Economic Opportunity has provided Thanksgiving meals to shut-ins from all over Luzerne County.

Nearly 50 volunteers gathered at the First Presbyterian Church on South Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre to cook the food and prepare the meals for delivery.

Michael Greer of Kingston was one of those volunteers.

"There's a lot of people in need who are out there who are less fortunate than us. And, I get help throughout the year and I feel good about this. This is my first year," said Greer.

The Commission on Economic Opportunity in Luzerne County also plans to deliver meals on Christmas.
