PITTSTON TOWNSHIP -- A man who tried to rob a Walmart as holiday shoppers were converging Thanksgiving night was arrested after a police chase, according to court records.
According to Pittston Township Police, the attempted hold-up happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when a man walked into the store along Route 315 and approached the customer service area. Police say the man put a note on the counter indicating that he had a gun and demanding money. When the employee refused, the man fled.
About an hour later, a pickup truck matching the description was found in Plains Township, near Wilkes-Barre, at the end of Bear Creek Boulevard. Wilkes-Barre Township police chased and caught the suspect.
Michael Owens, 37, of Old Forge, is charged with attempted robbery, attempted theft and disorderly conduct after the attempted hold-up. He is locked up with bail set at $75,000.
