WILKES-BARRE -- The union representing nurses at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital announced plans for a one-day strike on Tuesday, December 3.
In a news release, the union said nurses would picket outside the hospital on North River Street starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday and continuing for 24 hours.
According to the news release, nurses have been working without a contract since April.
A statement released by Wilkes-Barre General Hospital says that, if the strike takes place, the hospital will have contingency plans in place to make sure that patients, staff and visitors are cared for.
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital is owned by Community Health Systems, a for-profit hospital chain based in Tennessee.
