MONTOURSVILLE -- One day before Thanksgiving, the rush was on to grab last minute items for the holiday feast.
In Lycoming County, folks with a sweet tooth headed to bakeries, including one that's been around a long time.
At Rosencrans' Bakery in Montoursville, employees were busy with the onslaught of customers in the lead up to Thanksgiving Day.
The shelves were stocked but soon needed replenishing to satisfy the demand for all things sweet.
“All kinds of good sweets, things that make you feel good. Bring back the olden days when your grandparents made stuff by hand,” said Lonnie Hawkins of Montoursville.
It really all starts behind the scenes at the bakery where Rich Rosencrans pumps out all kinds of baked goods, knowing full well people will buy them.
While Rosencrans did the baking while employee Patrick Bower did the talking.
Orders are in, but our storefront stuff, pumpkin pies are gone and everything, slowly getting down as we go along,” Bower said.
Rosencrans' Bakery has been on Broad Street in Montoursville for nearly 60 years. For people who live in this area and go there for sweets for the Thanksgiving dinner table, they say it's like having a little bit of home.
“This is definitely a part of home, get some pumpkin roll and get ready for tomorrow,” said Christi Bodwell of Montoursville.
Bodwell and her family just moved back from Vermont. She brought her sons for the first time.
Whether it was your first time or you've been coming for years, like Emily Heivly, visiting the bakery is somewhat of a holiday tradition as much as being with family on Thanksgiving.
“Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to get together and be thankful for how much we have to be thankful for,” Heivly said.
