SCRANTON -- The night before Thanksgiving is a big night for bars and restaurants, including those in downtown Scranton.

But the night kicked off with an annual tradition that lit up the Electric City with the annual lighting of the Scranton Times radio tower.

But it was clear that mother nature was going to be playing the Grinch for this holiday happening.

The crowd was down sharply from last year, for the good vendors who came out, business was down sharply too.

At Scranton's downtown taverns, managers hoped that wasn't a trend.

One downtown bar manager told Newswatch 16 the night before Thanksgiving is the second biggest night of the year, second only to the day if the St. Patrick's Day parade in Scranton.

Newswatch 16 found some early crowds downtown at Kildares and the Backyard Ale House, but at each place, managers conceded, they had one eye on the forecast all day long.
