Firefighter Dies Battling Flames

FACTORYVILLE -- A firefighter in Wyoming County died in the line of duty early Thursday morning.

The fire started at a home on College Avenue in Factoryville just before midnight on Wednesday.  According to the coroner, firefighter Russell Gow, 58, was working on a fire engine when he collapsed.

He was taken to Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton where emergency workers were unable to save him.

Authorities said the flames were kept to one room inside the home.  First responders tell Newswatch 16 the family living here got out safely and they are receiving aid from the Red Cross.
