DUNMORE – A memorial continues to grow outside Dunmore High School for a graduate who lost her battle with cancer.
18-year old Kelcey Hallinan passed away Saturday.
Dozens of voices, all singing strong here at Dunmore High School in memory of recent graduate Kelcey Hallinan. Hallinan lost her two-year battle with cancer over the weekend, a loss the enter community is taking to heart.
“Very nice young lady and very close with her family and she`ll be sorely missed here,” said Assistant Principal Tim Hopkins.
Hopkins handed Hallinan her diploma just this past spring at Dunmore High School.
Now the school’s show choir is practicing to sing at her services.
Senior Alexander Kranick says Kelcey was a life-long friend of his and they went to the prom together.
"She was an inspiration, an actress, musician, she loved everything about arts, and acting," said Kranick.
Kranick says Kelcey always reached for her dreams - including becoming friends through Twitter with Harry Stiles, who’s in the pop music group One Direction – teaching her friends to be strong in so many ways.
"She taught me how to fight, she taught me to keep going with whatever I`m doing, never back down,” said Kranick.
Outside the school candles, messages of hope, love and support are scattered. The memorial has been growing since news of Kelcey’s passing.
"To see all of these people getting together for one thing it`s astounding,” said senior Andrea Ross.
Now this community fights on, just as Kelcey would have wanted.
"She was a fighter, she didn`t give up, and you know I think a lot of the students really look at her as an inspiration as to what she`s done the last two years,” said Hopkins.
Kelcey’s viewing is planned for Wednesday in Dunmore, funeral services are on Thursday.
