SCRANTON -- Officials in the electric city made a special proclamation for the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

City council made an announcement at Thursday's meeting at Scranton City Hall urging people to shop at small businesses in the city this holiday season.

Shoppers flood malls and chain stores to find deals for items on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.  The council hopes shoppers can designate Saturday to help out the smaller businesses during one of the busiest shopping times of year.

Several female business owners were also honored at the council meeting in Scranton.
