Charter School Upcycles to Create Mosaics

POTTSVILLE — A teacher in Schuylkill County is using her art class to teach students the power to save.

Students at Gillingham Charter School in Pottsville are upcycling. They’re reusing all kinds of material that would otherwise be thrown away to create several mosaics inside the school.

The idea came from art teacher Carrie Miller, and the students jumped right in, collecting cups, plates, tiles, mirrors and whatever else they could find.

Students said they really enjoyed saving hundreds of items from going into the landfill and turning them into beautiful pieces of art.
