MONTANDON -- A company in Northumberland County today celebrated an employee's 50 years of service. The 84-year-old woman has worked there for all these years, even though...she's making peanuts!

Peg Rowe thought she was going to an employee meeting for her job at Pardoe's Perky Peanuts in Montandon. But when she got to the restaurant, she got the surprise of her life!

This month marks 84-year-old Peg Rowe's 50th year working for Pardoe's Perky Peanuts. The company threw her a surprise anniversary party at Good Will's Restaurant near Milton.

"Well it took my breath away I was that surprised," Rowe said.

Over the past 50 years Peg has done everything from preparing to packaging peanuts. She even earned the name "Peanut Packing Peg"!

"She started this job the summer of my sophomore year of high school to put me through college. She has just continued to work the whole time," Connie Young said.

50 years later and Peg is still an active employee. She works about 20 hours a week, and get this--she walks to and from work. It's about a half mile each way!

"She's special. She comes in when I call her. She's here, she loves to work," Rose Stitzel said.

"Comes in when we need her and never complains. Does her job and goes about her business and has a great time," Chris Schmouder said.

Last year, Peg was named "The Northumberland County Older Worker of the Year". In her spare time, she volunteers at a local hospital. All of this work at age 84? Peg is not "nuts", she likes keeping busy and being around the people!

"I get a lot of help. They don't let me lift too heavy or carry too much. They're all very helpful," Rowe said.

Peg says she plans to keep working at Pardoe's as long as they let her.
