WILKES-BARRE -- Auto repair shops and insurance agents were busy Monday in the Wyoming Valley.
Police believe a single group of vandals shot out around three dozen car windows in and around Wilkes-Barre over the weekend.
A few cars were found damaged in Kingston and Plains Township, but in Wilkes-Barre 30 people found their car windows shattered or smashed early Sunday morning.
Police believe one group of vandals with a pellet gun is responsible.
There's no clear path of direction through north Wilkes-Barre but there's still shattered glass on the ground where police say vandals damaged dozens of cars early Sunday morning.
Some people used clear plastic others used trash bags to cover their broken windows. One car owner only had a bath towel.
"They did a lot of damage. I hope they had fun."
The driver’s side windows on Rick Powell's SUV were shot out. The retired firefighter says his neighbor's car windows were spared but the door was shot by a pellet gun.
"I’ve been here 30 some years and we haven’t had a problem, but this is something unusual,” Powell said.
One of the car owners targeted by the vandals just moved to north Wilkes-Barre from the Poconos last week. She tells us it’s estimated to cost around $350 to replace her two shattered windows, and her insurance will not cover it.
"You could see a BB hole going completely through here, and everything else was just shattered."
After years of long commutes from Monroe County, Lissa Lee says she moved to be closer to her job in Luzerne County. Lee says the vandalism happened at a financially tough time because she's also paying off moving expenses as well as Christmas gifts for loved ones.
"It’s a shame that people are out joyriding and doing this to people’s cars. It costs money and time. It’s just not a good welcome,” Lee said.
Neighbors tell us they believe this happened between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday.
