It's all smiles for King's College football player Dan Kempa. His Monarchs are one of the hottest teams right now in the Middle Atlantic Conference after beating Lycoming last weekend. King's travels to Widener on Saturday looking for their 6th win in a row.
"Yes it's very exciting when your 0-3 your just looking for a win and you have two conference losses and you get the win and you get another win, and you get another win and then outside forces start to happen next thing you start telling the kids hey the 7th week of the season means something now the 8th weeks means something," said Jeff Knarr
The key to this King's College winning streak started out in the back mountain about five weeks ago against Misericordia. A double overtime win got the ball rolling for the Monarchs and stopped a possible 0-4 start.
"It definitely propelled us in a great direction. Had we lost I don't know. Momentum probably would have been down, but I mean we handled it well and here we are," said Dan Kempa.
"I think it might have been that. Our kids just made a play they had to make a play and that was kind of the spark that ignited the wildfire," again said Jeff.
Balance on offense is also another great reason for King's sudden success. Kyle McGrath's motored for 600 plus yards on the ground, and quarterback Tyler Hartranft connected with (Kempa) 49 times for nearly 900 yards and 8 touchdowns
"If we execute like the way we have too we can play with anyone in this conference, and it's exciting to be playing in a meaningful game late in the season like this. Talking to Jeff about balance on offense when you got Dan and you got Kyle running the ball that's obviously important? Oh yeah Kyle is a great running back. He runs hard. He is one of the hardest runners I've ever seen. Then you got Dan who's one of the best play-makers I've ever seen-you get the ball in his hands and he will make something special happen," said Tyler Hartranft.
With a win against Widener down in Chester on Saturday King's could come back home to play for a conference championship and the Mayor's Cup trophy against Wilkes.
