PITTSTON — A monument to commemorate a former Roman Catholic church was dedicated Sunday in Luzerne County.
Former parishioners of Saint John the Baptist in Pittston gathered on the site where the building once stood along William Street.
The church closed in 2008 and was torn down. Now a cross now stands on the site, flanked by two stones.
One bears an etching of the former church, the other is a tribute to the Slovak immigrants who founded it.
Monsignor Bendik presided over the dedication.
