Contractor Arrested For Failing To Finish Work on House
NEWPORT TOWNSHIP – A contractor was arrested for failing to finish work on a $10,200 project and refusing to pay the money back to the homeowner in Luzerne County.
Charles Harth, the owner of Harth and Son’s General Contracting LLC in Moosic, was charged with a felony under the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act.
Maryellen Jaskulski told Newswatch 16 that Harth claimed that he had run out of money, and that he left behind a mess of glass and insulation in her backyard in Newport Township.
“We paid him over $10,000 and basically he came five days and never showed back up to do any work, just more damage,” said Jaskulski. “To make a living out of doing this to people? I just want everybody to know, him and his business, this is how he works. You know, I`m not the first one, I know there`s more people out there that he`s done this to.”
Jaskulski said she posted pictures to social media websites, and she was contacted by several people in the Wyoming Valley who also had complaints about Harth’s work.
Elaine Schultz said Harth didn’t finish work in her basement in Plymouth, and that another contractor she hired said that the work was done improperly and that new flooring must be put down.
“It was my last remodeling job. I started at the top and went all the way through. Windows, tile, granite countertops, and the last thing I had to do at the age of almost 70,” said Schultz.
Harth’s business has a “-A” rating on the Better Business Bureau.
