On his 151st, 152nd and the 153rd goal of his career, Colby Thomas from Mountain View High School received the assist from fellow senior and teammate Zeb Cross. This terrific tandem is helping the Eagles pile up wins, and at the same time putting their names in the state record books.
Thomas is now 7th all-time for goals, and Cross ranks 6th all-time in assists and closing in on 100 for his career.
"When you get that ball and make a play into him you kind of know he is going to bury it and put it away. That must be a good feeling? Colby is definitely I think one of the, I would say, the best player in the state for high school right now. I think his stats would prove that among other things. If anybody has ever had a chance to see him play he is something else. I consider it a privilege to play behind him," said Zeb Cross.
"When you make that run and the ball comes in just talk about that feeling? It is incredible. Zeb and i we swear we are on the same page always. We're brothers. It's unbelievable and i hate to see it end. I don't want it to end and it's going to be a fun run here. He is a truly great player that i know he is going special places," said Colby Thomas.
When you talk about numbers here at Mountain View they do mount up. They're now on a 29 game winning streak after their win over Meyers on Friday, with one player ranked in the top 10 all-time in assists, and another ranked in the top 10 all-time in goals scored. There's really only one number that these Mountain View Eagles players care about and that's two: winning their 2nd state title and going back-to-back.
"It would be a lot of fun to get back to Hershey. Having these two kids they can show the way. They can coach the way. It just makes the whole job of a coach so much easier," says head coach Roger Thomas.
The quest for a fourth district title in a row resumes Tuesday at home with Wyoming Seminary.
