A fire at a home in Williamsport is now a case of homicide.

Newswatch 16 first told you about the fire Saturday morning and by Saturday afternoon, the investigation took a turn after a woman's body was found inside.

Now police have charged the woman’s husband with her death.

Michael Wright was led from the Williamsport Police Station Saturday evening to be arraigned on a charge of criminal homicide.

Fire crews were called a blaze inside the first floor apartment at 1450 West Fourth Street Friday night around 10:30 where police say Wright lived with his wife, Lynn.

A neighbor, Maynard Homler, saw all the commotion.

“I come out the back door and the flames were shooting probably 10, 20 feet over top that roof. I heard a young lady out in the backyard, I couldn't see where she was at, she was screaming hysterically, I couldn't get him out, I couldn't get him out, I heard some guy say I don't worry about it, we got out,” said Homler.

Once fire crews were able to get inside they found Lynn Wright's body and police and the Lycoming County Coroner were called to the scene.

After the fire, police say they found Wright at a bar, known as Ann`s Tavern.

Witnesses there told police wright talked openly about killing his wife.

One witness told police she asked Wright if he was joking and Wright said he was serious and said, "No really I killed her.”

And during questioning at the police station, investigators said Wright told them without any prompting, "I killed my wife."

Wright was taken away to the county jail where he is being held without bail.

The coroner says an autopsy for Lynn Wright is scheduled for Monday.
