CLIFFORD TOWNSHIP -- One person is dead after a crash in Susquehanna County.

Authorities said a car and pickup truck collided on Route 106 in Clifford Township near Lenoxville.

The fire chief said crews found the truck on fire and the driver and passenger trapped inside.

Those two people were freed and taken to area hospitals.

The chief said one of the victims from the truck is being treated for breathing in smoke.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead on scene by the coroner.

The fire chief credits the help of two people passing by with keeping the truck fire from spreading by shoveling dirt on the flames until firefighters arrived.

There is no word yet on the victims' names or what caused the wreck. State police are investigating the crash.
