PECKVILLE — More than 500 women bundled up in pink Sunday afternoon for the annual Ladies in Pink party in Lackawanna County.
This is the seventh year for the event at Fiorelli’s Family Catering in Peckville, in memory of Michelle Zini.
She lost her battle with breast cancer in 2005 when she was just 46 years old.
Her sisters organize the dinner and fundraiser each year to honor Michelle and raise money for other women battling breast cancer.
“The main thing is we like to keep it a party atmosphere. It’s difficult for anybody that’s going through cancer, has a friend going through cancer. And we want to make sure that they join our family of ladies in pink, and that they know as a community we will all come together and we’re out to support them,” said Ginger Chelik.
There were raffles, a DJ and a silent auction at the fundraiser.
Money from the event will go to women currently undergoing cancer treatment, and to a scholarship fund at Valley View High School in Lackawanna County.
