PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- From a suit and tie to a jail jumpsuit. Within a matter of minutes, a groom getting married in Luzerne County was arrested in front of his new wife just after they said their vows.

District judges officiate weddings nearly every day in our area, but one wedding ended abruptly when clerks filing the marriage license on a computer discovered that the groom was a wanted man.

It was not the traditional walk down the aisle. Instead of being alongside his new wife after he was married, Delroy Toomer was led out of a magistrate's office in handcuffs.

Workers at the magistrate's office in Kingston said it all started there Friday morning. District Judge Paul Roberts married Delroy Toomer and Angelic Yard. It wasn't until after the vows were said, that a worker discovered that there was an arrest warrant for Toomer.

Court records show that back in July, Toomer called his former girlfriend and threatened to kill her.

Later that same night, police said Toomer went to his former girlfriend's house in Ashley, kicked on the door, and smashed a front window, all while that woman and their young child were inside.

With a jail jumpsuit replacing a shirt and tie, Toomer was booked on terroristic threats and harassment charges.

Family members were upset with the wedding ruined by the arrest and did not want this memory photographed.

Although their time together as a married couple was brief, court workers said the marriage license was signed so it will be mailed to the Register of Wills to make the union official.

"Why are they taking you away?" asked a reporter.
"Yo man, just get that away from me," Toomer said.

The new bride, Angelic Yard, was long gone by the time we got to the magistrate's office.

Court records show that she drove by her new husband's ex-girlfriend's house and was yelling at her the same day that Toomer made the death threat.

The bride is not facing any charges.
