SWIFTWATER -- Columbus Day for one resort in the Poconos means one last hurrah for a group of guests who, over the years, have become family.

It was checkout day at Chestnut Grove resort in Swiftwater. The resort is only open May through Columbus Day weekend in October.

But for most of the guests, saying goodbye is more like saying "see you later." That's because most of these guests vacation every year on Columbus Day weekend as a sort of family reunion.

"We've made a lot of family while we've been here, you know, the friends of the family that you choose for yourself," said Kerry Kilkenny.

"What's really neat about this weekend is so many of our families that come throughout the year, choose to come back and do this last weekend," said Noel Daniels of Chestnut Grove resort.

Anita Krausch, 89, and her family are no exception. She showed us around a place she considers a home away from home.

"I love my new family," she said.

While dozens of families reconnect each year on Columbus Day at Chestnut Grove, the resort itself honors some guests who left a lasting impression.

And for Anita Krausch, that memorable guest happens to be her late husband. She says her family has come for so many years, that she has her own family name.

"They call me Mom and Nanny."
