MOUNT CARBON -- One week ago, a blaze ripped through two homes and wrecked a fire department in Schuylkill County.

First responders are remembering the flames and now need your help to rebuild.

The fire all but destroyed the Mount Carbon Fire Company. Officials have called the blaze suspicious because it started in a vacant, dilapidated house.

Firefighter Kyle Strokelitus remembers the efforts to save the fire company.

"Once it was creeping over and hitting our fire house, it was just emotional, just looked around and could see everybody crying." Strokelitus explained.

Another first responder, Mary Ann Saduski, said time has not healed her emotional wounds.

"It's emotional. I live up the street and I look down when I go out on the porch and it's devastating to see this building."

The job of rebuilding is still ahead. The damage estimate is $1 million. Fire officials don't expect insurance to cover all the losses.

Mayor Jeff Dunkel said he's confident the fire company will come back even better.

"It's going to be an uphill battle for them to rebuild but they have a website set up, they have accounts they've got people moving forward."

The first major fundraiser for the fire department will be November 17 at Goodfellas in Mount Carbon.
