WILKES-BARRE -- Jurors will try again Thursday to come to a verdict in the trial of an 81-year-old woman prosecutors claim tried to kill her son's girlfriend in Luzerne County.

Amid accusations of jealousy, hatred and lies, Helen Galli stands accused of poisoning her son's girlfriend.

Prosecutors said she did it to keep the victim from getting her hands on her son's money.

It's a trial that has grabbed headlines.

Galli is accused of poisoning her son's girlfriend in 2010.

Investigators said in 2010, Galli mixed antifreeze into juice for Dawn Simyan, because Galli was jealous of Simyan`s relationship with Galli`s son.

Simyan told jurors she became so sick she could barely move. She was hospitalized for three weeks.

Galli`s attorneys told jurors Simyan was a 'perpetually drunk gold digger' who could have poisoned herself for attention.

Helen Galli has been in trouble before.

In 1991, she pleaded guilty to arson and other charges, admitting she gave her granddaughters kerosene and persuaded them to burn her daughter-in-law`s home in Plains Township.

For that, Galli was put on probation for 10 years.

Now she faces charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, and her fate is in the hands of a jury.

Jurors deliberated for more than three hours before the judge decided to send them home.

They will be back at the Luzerne County courthouse Thursday morning to continue deliberations in the trial of Helen Galli.
