Some ethnic observances and festivals kicked off Thursday.

Gyros and baklava are just some of the items on the menu at an annual event in Luzerne County.

The Greek food festival kicked off Thursday at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on South Ross Street in Wilkes-Barre.

The Greek goodies are available in the church basement from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through Saturday.gyro

It’s considered one of the most important holidays to Germans. It commemorates the reunification of Germany in 1990.

A group of German-Americans in Lackawanna County organized the celebration on Courthouse Square which included German music and historical information.
