SCRANTON -- Winter is three months away but the ski patrol at Montage Mountain wants to be ready for anything.

Members of the patrol practiced lift rescues Sunday by climbing towers and rappelling from chairlifts.

Officials say it's important to be ready in the event something goes wrong during ski season.

"If there's extreme weather conditions, we may need to do an actual lift evacuation where we actually lower the customers by a rope, and we do that in a proper manner, a safe way and we practice it at least three times a year to make sure we're doing it properly," said Jim Weidner, Montage Mountain Ski Patrol.

About a dozen people took part in the rescue training exercise on Montage Mountain in Scranton.
