MILTON -- Thirty-two-year-old Staff Sergeant Thomas Baysore Junior died on Thursday.
It was his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. He spent time in Iraq too.
The solider died thousands of miles away from his hometown of Milton Pennsylvania, but people in Milton, whether they knew him personally or not, felt the loss.
"It's terrible. It's a waste of a good American over there with those people. I don't think much of that war," said Dick Powell, a Korean War veteran from Milton.
At the Milton American Legion, veterans spoke out about Staff Sergeant Baysore's death.
Military officials said he was killed when someone wearing an Afghan National Army uniform opened fire on a group of American soldiers.
Baysore, a 2000 graduate of Milton Area High School, was shot in the neck and later died.
Vietnam War vet Craig Long said he is not surprised by the attack.
"Those people in Afghanistan are kind of like the people that were in Vietnam, the Viet Cong. You didn't know who they were, where they were from," said Long.
Jack Plotts is a World War II veteran who served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He was wounded in the war and still bears the scars from his service. Plotts does not believe American troops should be in Afghanistan.
"What are we doing there? Why are we sacrificing our young people as a police action for every country in this world?" he asked.
Military officials said there will be a memorial service in Afghanistan for Staff Sgt. Baysore Junior.
He leaves behind family in the Milton area, and a wife and child in Tennessee.
