SCRANTON -- Two brothers from Scranton raised more than $8,500 Sunday for a pet rescue in the Poconos.

The fundraiser on North Everett Avenue benefited the Hope for Hannah Rescue in Bartonsville, Monroe County.

This is the second year that Michael Gowarty, 12, and his brother Nicholas, 9, have stepped up to help Hope for Hannah. Last year, they raised close to $2,500 with a lemonade stand.

This year's event required the city to block off some streets to accommodate all the stands, music and raffles. There were also dogs up for adoption.

The event in Scranton raised at least $8,532 for Hope for Hannah. Organizers expect the total to increase as more donations come in.
