BRIAR CREEK TOWNSHIP -- It was a sad night for employees at the Consolidated Container Company near Berwick, where flames lit up the night sky, badly damaging the plastic packaging business they've come to love.
"Everybody's fun to work with, and they cooperate really good, which is really nice. And it makes it better, where you actually want to come in to work," said employee Dale Baker.
That's why a big group of plant employees showed up on this day to check out the damage. The fire marshal was also here and determined an electrical problem in the ceiling caused the explosion and fire around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
About 30 people were working at the time, but made it out safely. Now the 100 employees here are left wondering when they'll be back on the job.
"There's a lot of people here that are husband and wife, so that's two of you that you have to look out for. You know, what are you going to do? Where's your next paycheck?" said employee Carol Fester.
Officials are still assessing all the damage to the plant, and there's no word on if and when it will reopen. But employees and managers are hoping it's sometime soon.
"It's very sad and disheartening. We've got a lot of great employees, and we can't wait to get them back to work," said regional director Clive Brown.
"Maybe we'll come back bigger and better. That's always the hope," said Fester.
Coincidentally, employees at the plant say they had a safety meeting last night about an hour before the fire started. The insurance company still has to take a look at the damage.
