LARKSVILLE – A 15-year-old boy is expected to recover after he was hit by lightning near Luzerne Avenue in Larksville Wednesday night.

People who saw it happen say it hadn't started to rain, and they could only see lightning in the distance, when the 15 year old was struck.

Chase Wychock said he was outside and his 15-year-old friend, Jacob, and Jacob's girlfriend were walking nearby when lightning struck.

"Right out of the corner of my eye, I see the lightning strike and his girlfriend caught him. He was about to fall down. She was holding him upright," said Wychock.

Diane Wychock was inside her home when it happened. She heard a boom and came to check things out.

"I wasn't sure if it was a bomb or thunder. I ran out the front door and then I ran out the back door and saw Jacob's girlfriend. She said Jacob was hit by lightning," said Wychock.

Diane Wychock got the teen inside her home and called 911.

There is a dark spot on the ground where the Wychocks said the teen was hit. They said emergency responders told them luckily, the young man was not hit directly.

"It hit something else and ricocheted off that and hit him," she said.

"I never had lightning strike near me before," added Chase Wychock.

The Wychocks said Jacob was taken to a hospital to be checked out but was expected to be OK.
