WILKES-BARRE -- A new house of worship in Wilkes-Barre held its grand opening Sunday morning at the site of a former United Methodist Church.

The church, named Restored Church, on North Franklin Street held its first weekly service this past Sunday.

The new church is renting the space and has been holding preview services until now.

One of the pastors at Restored Church said word spread quickly through social media leading to a lot of interest from people in Wilkes-Barre and the surrounding area.

"Wilkes-Barre is a hurting city, let's face it, we watch the news and we see there's hurting, bad situations all the time, in every city really," said Pastor Dan Nichols.

The church uses the name "Restored" because the pastors believe people can have a restored relationship with god.
