KINGSTON — The final phase of work is underway to fix underground leaking gasoline tanks, discovered nearly seven months ago at the Valero/Convenient Mart on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston.
Contractors have a big piece of the lot torn up. The tanks are still working and the business is still open.
According to DEP, contractors are working to permanently seal the two gas tanks, along with installing new lines to connect the repaired tanks to the pumps.
Between 500 and 1,700 gallons leaked earlier this year. Most of the contamination in the soil was contained and cleaned up.
The DEP says the owner is paying for all of the upgrades out of pocket and the company will not be fined because they are cooperating.
